Aces survive late strike by Meteors
On Sunday afternoon the Taylor Fluid Systems Peewee C Stratford Aces travelled to Mitchell Arena to take on the Mitchell Meteors.  Although the Aces held the season advantage with wins over the Meteors, they knew they were in for a tough battle.

As anticipated both squads came out of the gate flying and much of the first period was spent killing penalties as the pressure to secure the first goal increased.

The Aces cracked the scoreless tie early in the second.  Deirdre Parsons drove the puck deep across the blue line then made a superb backhand pass to Taylor Neeb parked out front.  Neeb beat the Meteors’ net-minder five-hole, putting the Aces up 1-0.

Later in the second the Aces pinned the Meteors in deep and a scramble for the puck ensued.  Rowan Aitken battled for position in front of the net and was rewarded as she banged home a rebound, increasing the Aces’ lead to two.

Despite the deficit, the Meteors continued to press the attack, and with 2:13 left in the third they managed to beat Ava Neumeister short-side, reducing the Aces’ lead to one.

The final two minutes of the game were played at a frantic pace.  The Meteors pulled their goalie and once again the crowd sat on the edge of their seats, witnessing the final act of another classic Stratford vs Mitchell finale.

In the end, solid defense and shutdown goal-tending secured the Aces 2-1 win.
