On Saturday afternoon, the Taylor Fluid Systems Peewee C Stratford
Aces welcomed the Lambton Attack to the RBC arena for a much anticipated
contest. Throughout the season these two
teams had been evenly matched with most games being decided by a single goal.
The two teams skated to a scoreless first period, neither team gaining much of an advantage.
Lambton got on the board first early in the second period but the Aces responded by ratcheting up the competitive intensity. Off a defensive zone faceoff, Ava Neumeister made a sliding paddle save. Alanah McIlroy pounced on the rebound, and capped off an end to end rush by sniping one five-hole on the Attack net-minder.
Later in the second, with the score knotted at one, Josie Walker drove the puck deep behind the Lambton net. As the defenders collapsed around her, Josie made a perfect pass out front to Avery Faulhafer who stepped into a one-timer, giving the Aces their first lead of the game.
With 1:21 left the third, Lambton pulled their goalie and sent another skater to the attack. The Aces continued to battle hard and in the end, preserved the one goal advantage.
Next up, the Aces travel to Mitchell on Sunday to take on the Meteors.
