Third place weekend!
The Atom C Stratford Aces played some great hockey this past weekend during the Woodstock Wildcats Tournament 2020. We first played Woodstock Wildcats on Friday Jan 3, 2020 but it was a tough loss 8-2. Congratulations to Ivy Hurley Demers scoring our first goal of the tournament with Makinlee Phillips and Hallie Turpin picking up the assists. The second goal of game one was scored by Hallie with a break-a-way. We bounced back with a 3-1 win against Central Perth Predators later that day.

During the second game Hallie Turpin scored our first goal with Ivy Hurley Demers and Claire Turner picking up the assists. Makinlee Philips hit the ice on a mission and scored our team’s second goal after receiving a pass from Claire Turner. The final goal and the goal the secured our first win in this tournament was scored by Hallie Turpin with less then 3 minutes in the game. Congratulations on the win girls!

It was a really close game between us and St Thomas Panthers for our third game of the tournament. Congratulations to Hallie Turpin for scoring in this game too. We played hard and it was an exciting game for the parents to watch despite the loss 2-1.

Our final game of the tournament we played against Sarnia Jr Lady Sting and pulled off a tie 3-3. Makinlee Phillips scored our team’s first goal with Gianna Nickel and Claire Turner picking up the assist. The second goal was scored by Chloe Pethick who was in the right spot at the right time to get the rebound and tap the puck in. Vitorria Brander picked up the assist on the second goal. Our team’s final goal was scored by Hallie Turpin with less then 40 seconds to go which tied up the game. Makinlee Phillips got the assist on the third goal.

Isabella McKay and Jessica Lerch both played really well as defense players this tournament. They kept the puck in the scoring zone when we needed them to and helped to get the puck out of our zone on the opposite side of the ice too. Both of these players are playing great hockey.

Selina Gethke did an amazing job as our goalie for this tournament and saved so many great shots. She really did well and saved our team from many goals against us. Keep up the great work Selina.

During one of our games this weekend Mira Broughton was recognized as player of the game because she was playing all ends of the ice. She not only did a great job playing forward but often rushed back to play defense when the team needed that help too. She skated her heart out and we appreciate all her effort.

Leighton always shows up with speed and works so hard for her team. She out paced the other players many times chasing after the puck. Way to go.

It’s wonderful to see this team gel and continue to play their positions well. We are utilizing the full ice to make different plays happen and looking to make those passes plus we have speed. Everyone has developed so much since the beginning of the season and we are proud of each member or our team. Everyone on the team matters!

Congratulations on finishing 3rd place in this tournament.
