Pink the Rink Tournament Builds Awareness and Confidence
The Stratford Aces Atom C team travelled to Etobicoke this past weekend for the Pink The Rink tournament hosted by the Etobicoke Dolphins.

The tournament provided the girls with a chance to bond over the course of three days. Plenty of time in the pool, group dinner out to Lone Star Texas Bar & Grill on Friday, group pizza party on Sat and finished with some more swimming on Sunday before having to head back to Stratford.

The girls played their best game on Friday Oct 18 at 10am against Sudbury Lady Wolves. Congratulations to Hallie Turpin for scoring our team’s first two goals with Chloe Pethick and Leighton Whetstone picking up the assists on Hallie’s second goal. Claire Turner did an amazing job in net. We saw everyone hustling and playing in their positions for this game. Congratulations to Makinlee Phillips for scoring our team’s third goal with Ivy Hurly Demers picking up the assist. It was a nail biter of a game which was exciting to watch despite the 6-3 loss.

A huge shout out is deserved to both Claire Turner and Makinlee Phillips for playing goalie for our game on Sat Oct 18, 2019 at 12:45pm against the Kanata Rangers. We saw some great saves from both goalies and we saw some excellent effort from all the defense players too.

We ended the tournament being able to celebrate our first non-loss against the LNHL Wiikwemkoong team where we tied 2-2. Congratulations to Claire for playing a great game in net. Superb performance by Hallie Turpin for scoring both goals. Leighton Whetstone picked up the assist on the first goal and Jessica Lerch picked on the assist on the second goal.

The coaches inspired the girls by reminding them that our team size means we have speed and if we continue to play our positions right then we will see the improvements we want to achieve and get better every time we hit the ice. Everyone is improving and working hard.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our pinked-out photo. It was a great opportunity for the girls to reflect on breast cancer awareness and who they play pink for while having a little bit of fun wrapping their coaches up in a pink blanket and convincing the coaches to wear pink wigs! Thank you to everyone who hit ‘like’ to our team photo on the Etobicoke Dolphins Facebook Page. Our photo received 137 likes which was the second highest number of likes for the Atom C Division. North Bay Ice Boltz (Atom C) got the most likes on their photo with 189 so we came close to winning this contest.
