TFS P-BB Win First Round in LL Playoffs
The Taylor Fluid Systems Aces played their first two games in the LLFHL playdowns this weekend (best of 3 series) beating the Waterloo Ravens two straight to move to the next round. Both games being solely of skill and hard-fought battles. The only way any player got on the game sheet was from goals or assists; there were no penalties called on either team through both games. Ava Neumeister got the nod for the first playoff game of the season. Neumeister was solid in net stopping all but two shots that came her way. The first period did not start as drawn up by the coaches during their pregame speech.

The Aces were taking a faceoff in the defensive zone and due to an off-speed faceoff drop by the official and a bouncing puck that eluded the defence girls, the Aces seen themselves down by a goal in the first shift of the first period. Not to be deterred, the girls kept battling and kept putting shots on the Ravens net. The Aces were rewarded with a tying goal that was karma. Katie Helson won the puck battle in the corner to gain possession, she brought the puck to the half boards and shot towards the net, the puck defected off of an opponent’s skate then off the heal of the goalies stick through her legs and into the back of the net to tie the game. The first period ended tied 1-1. The only goal in the second period was scored by Kylie Fifield. She received a pass from her defence partner Grace Laverty where she took the shot from the blueline beating the Ravens goalie through her legs to give the Aces the lead. The rest of the period was good backchecking and another nine more shots on the Ravens goalie to finish off the period up by one. The third seen the Ravens tired and the Aces took advantage of their weakness scoring three more. The first of the third period was scored by Josephine Jarmuth, as we have seen all season Jarmuth used her strength to make her way to the offensive zone faceoff dot and fire the puck far side top cheese for the eventual game winner. The second goal of the period, was scored by Aveleen Flood. Helson had puck possession and was driving the net for a shot, Flood read the play and swooped in for support and the rebound if one was to come out. Helson took a hard shot from the hash marks which created a rebound for Flood who made no mistake putting the puck home. The final goal for the Aces was from Kara Rolph with help from her two line mates. Josie Walker had the puck at the hashmarks and took a shot on net which created a juicy rebound for Anne Nickel. Nickel had options, shoot the puck or pass, she decided to pass to Rolph who back handed the puck in to the net to finish the period and the game with a 5-2 victory.

The second game on Sunday was in their barn. Sloan Cameron was between the pipes for this game stopping all shots to earn the shutout. The scoring didn’t start unit the second period where Jarmuth took the puck into the offensive zone unleashing a hard shot on net to create a juicy rebound for Campbell to rush in score the first goal of the game – just like mom predicted. The second goal happened about half way through the third. The TFS Aces were controlling the puck in the offensive, the puck made its way to Fifield who made a nice pass to her defence partner Van Straaten. Van Straaten took a hard shot towards the net beating the goalie five hole to give the TFS Aces some insurance. The game ended with a 2-0 victory and a ticket to the next round. Well done Aces!!
