The Stratford Accumetal Bantam A Aces got shutout performances from both goaltenders this weekend and earned a pair of important win
On Saturday afternoon the Aces won 1 to 0 against the Belmont Blazers at the East Elgin Community Center.
Early in the second period the line of Kenzie Dietrich, Brooklyn Rau and Kate Schneider crashed the Belmont net and all had chances to score. It was Dietrich that finally put her team ahead with her linemates both earning helpers.
Ella Wouters had a great game between the pipes, especially in the third period, making stops on at least 3 breakaways as Belmont pressed to equalize.
On Sunday back on home ice the Aces played the London ('02) Devilettes.
With 9 seconds left in the first period Stratford took a 1 to 0 lead. Joanna Van De Walle buried the rebound from a Tarha Keen shot. Madi Smith also earned an assist on the goal.
With 9 seconds left in the second period Stacey Shackleton's shot through a crowd found the corner of the London net. Assists were awarded to Abby Gilchrist and Mikayla Flanagan.
Megan Arnold backstopped a huge 5 on 3 penalty kill late in the game and made one totally larcenous pad save to earn her shutout on Sunday.
