Aces Work Hard On & Off The Ice
Written by Kristy Taylor. The Turner Plumbing Peewee BB Aces Work Hard Both On and Off The Ice This Weekend

The Stratford Peewee B.B. Aces worked hard this past weekend. The Aces who are competing with teams across Canada in the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup, spread Christmas cheer in Stratford. The Aces worked hard at Walmart assisting the Stratford Police Service to collect items for their annual Toy Drive. The girls faced the cold, greeting customers asking for them to consider supporting the toy drive. The Aces did a great job, and were overwhelmed by the generosity of the community. The Aces helped to stuff the police cruisers and ERU van full of items that will make Christmas extra special for children in the community this year. This good deed helped the girls to realize how incredible it feels to give back to their community, and appreciated how important it is help those in need.

After the Aces thawed out they took to the ice to face the strong Grand River Mustangs. The last time the Aces played the Mustangs in Fergus it was a loss the girls will never forget losing 6-0. The Aces knew they needed to play a completely different game than the last time. The Aces came out playing an intense game that caught the Mustangs off guard. They battled and shut the Mustangs down hard. In the first period of the game McKenzie Parsons had a TSN highlight reel goal when she shot the puck bar down, shocking the Grand River Goaltender.
Parsons was assisted by Skylar Fadelle and Rylee Nethercott. The second period Olivia Rau scored a beauty goal. She was assisted by Fadelle with her second assist of the game and Victoria Campbell. The third period the Aces continued to shut down the Mustangs securing a shutout for goaltender Ella Gracey. The Aces celebrated their big win with good cheer over dinner. The Good Deeds Cup continued with the girls being lucky enough to learn kindness from Mrs. Nethercott (Rylee’s Grandma) who took the time to prepare and guide the girls through a special Christmas craft. Mrs. Nethercott is well known in the St.Mary’s area for all of the special crafts she has provided many children over the years helping them make Christmas gifts for family and friends. This was a great opportunity for the girls to learn the importance of giving back to the community from a true mentor. A big thank you to Mrs. Nethercott for taking so much time and giving the girls such a great experience.

On Sunday the Aces faced the Kitchener Lady Rangers. The Aces again arrived ready and raring to go. The first period ended with no goals on the board for either team. Kitchener scored the first goal in the second, but Stratford didn’t let them have the glory for long. Stratford’s first goal was truly a team effort. Olivia Rau skated the puck to the net, battling the much taller Kitchener players. Rau threw the puck towards the net, the goalie made the first save, but Morgan Yantzi and Kenleigh Soper continued to dig at the puck with Soper managing
to pop it over the pads to score. The battle continued, but unfortunately Kitchener was able to put a second goal in. Stratford tried hard to get one back, but were unable to get it in the net losing 2-1. The Aces truly showed grit and determination never giving up.
