The Turner Plumbing Peewee B.B. Aces Showcase Their Talents In The Woodstock Wildcats Tournament

The Peewee B.B. Aces took to the Ice after a week and a half off to play in the Annual Woodstock Wildcats Tournament. The Aces knew that they needed to get themselves back into the hockey spirit. They were happy and excited to be together again. Honestly for anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to be around this group your are missing out. This group of girls love every bit of the hockey experience. Whether it’s a game, practice, or an off ice activity they do it with all their effort and always have a blast doing it! Thursday night the Aces took on the Wilmont Wolverines. The Aces had a bit of a rusty start after being off for the break. They were able to come away with a 1-1 tie. Morgan Yantzi scored for the Aces unassisted. The girls quickly recognized what they needed to do to move themselves further in the tournament. They knew they would have their work cut out for them the next day.

The Aces went into Friday pumped up and ready to go! This was a highly intense game with new strategies. The Aces battled the Brantford Ice Cats winning 1-0. Victoria Campbell scored the goal for Stratford. The Aces were excited to get a win and move onto the next game.

The third games saw the Aces meeting up with the Tillsonburg Lightning. This was a highly energized game to which the Tillsonburg fans were quite excitable! Though Tillsonburg tried their hardest making the Aces work hard, the Aces capitalized in the 4-0 win! Olivia Van Straaten opened the scoring assisted by Kyleigh Denstedt. The second goal came when Aveleen Flood put one past the goalie assisted by Olivia Rau. The second period Alia Poirier added an unassisted goal. Onto the third Skylar Fedelle sealed the deal with the fourth goal of the game assisted by Aveleen Flood. The Aces were excited because this secured their spot on Sunday in the final game. Back to back shutout games for the spectacular goal playing by Ella Garcey.

On Saturday the Aces met their toughest opponents yet. The St.Clair Shores Saints, from the U.S.A. delayed the game with some added shenanigans that added to the craziness. After an issue with neck guards the game finally got started. This was one of the most intense battles of the Aces season. When the Aces would score the Saints counterattacked with a goal of their own. The battle went back and forth both teams wanting so badly to have the upper hand on the other. The physicality of this games escalated, with numerous penalties adding to the
drama. At the end of the game both teams could only stay at an even score of 2-2 to move onto Sunday’s game where they would meet again. Olivia Rau opened the scoring in a game with a beautiful shot finding open net, unassisted. Stratford’s second goal was scored by Victoria Campbell assisted from her linemates Skylar Fedelle and Aveleen Flood. The Aces left Woodstock Saturday night knowing they needed to bring their best game yet for Sunday’s battle. Sunday morning brought an exciting, yet nerve racking start. The Aces were ready to face the
Saints again knowing this game could go either way. The Aces were craving a gold medal, but knew the odds might be stacked against them after playing the Saints the day before seeing the talent this team had. The Aces skated hard and played a very physical game. The Aces scored the first goal of the game when Olivia Rau put one n the net assisted by Kenleigh Soper. The Saints managed to add their own goal to tie up the game. The intensity of the game could be felt by everyone in the arena. The game ended with a 1-1 tie, which led to an overtime battle of 3 on 3. The Aces stayed strong but the Saints top player managed to get in the zone and shot
to score. The Aces were disappointed in the loss, even though they couldn’t have played any better. The Aces took home a silver medal, but definitely had a gold medal effort. Honourable mentions go to goaltender Ella Gracey who stood on her head all weekend for the Aces, never backing down to any of the shots she faced.
