Knotted at 2's with Belmont
The Stratford Accumetal Bantam A Aces and the Belmont Blazers skated to a 2 to 2 tie in their first meeting of the season at the RBC Arena on Sunday.
Madi Smith put the home side in front early scoring on a 2 on 0 breakaway. Stacey Shackleton was awarded an assist for the pass the created lop-sided rush.
Belmont battled back with a pair of goals in the second and maintained that lead well into the third period.
The Aces tied it late in the third. The puck was turned over on an aggressive pinch as Belmont tried to leave their own zone. Two passes later the puck was in the back of the Belmont net. Abby Gilchrist was awarded the goal with a lone assist going to Olivia Galloway.
Sources close to the team suggest that Madi Smith had a large hand in the Aces final goal as well. It's possible that this isn't the first time this season that the Aces sniper has been overlooked by on-ice officials when points are awarded. This reporter suspects a conspiracy....
This weekend the Accumetal Bantam A Aces take to ice in their home tournament.
