Peewee C Aces Lose Game 1 of the Regular Season
The Peewee C Aces felt the effects of a long break between games, dropping the first game of the regular season 3-2 to St Marys.
St Marys started the game strong and were able to open a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period. The Aces rallied in the second and got back to playing the aggressive style that we are known for.
The first Aces goal was the result of some great playmaking by the line of Katelynn, Cassie and Piper. After a solid outlet pass from the Aces defense, Piper stickhandled around the St Marys D into the neutral zone and fed Cassie on the wing. Cassie drove the puck deep past the St Marys defender and fired a pass to the slot. Katelynn had to fight through coverage but got to the puck to deflect it in.
The second Aces goal came as a result of a scrambled faceoff in the St Marys zone. Laura was able to find a loose puck and feed it to the slot where Abby fired it home.
The Aces continued to generate chances in the second period by pressuring the St Marys defense. Peyton made several excellent saves in net to keep the game 2-2 through the end of the second. St Marys retook the lead in the third off of a good faceoff play that led to a shot from the high slot that just caught the bottom left corner of the net.
The Aces applied pressure for the rest of the third but were unable to find the back of the net.
Game 2 of the regular season takes place on Nov 24 and we are hosting the Festival Cup Tournament this coming weekend with game 1 against Wallaceburg on Nov 15.
