Peewee C Aces Compete in Orangeville Tournament B Division
The Aces travelled to Orangeville for the 40th Annual Sweetheart Tournament in Orangeville this past weekend. Despite playing up a division with the Peewee B teams, the Aces showed a lot of heart and character and competed hard against some high quality competition.

Game 1 was against the TCDMHA Rebels, the other Peewee C team in the tournament, who hadn't lost a game yet this year. The Aces struggled at times with the speed of the Rebels but fought their way back from a couple of one goal deficits, scoring with 11 seconds left to tie the game 2-2. Abby had the late tying goal while Peyton V earned player of the game for scoring the Aces' first goal and playing a strong all-around game.

Game 2 featured a matchup against the Mount Forest Rams, a highly ranked B team. The Aces ultimately lost the game 5-0, but the score was not indicative of the play. Despite the Rams speed and capable passing game, the Aces played an extremely aggressive game. The Rams were clearly frustrated with the Aces' play for much of the game, taking a number of penalties. Cassie was player of the game for her determined checking and generally inspired play. (The Rams ended up winning the tournament championship with a 5-0 over Owen Sound).

Game 3 was against Owen Sound (who ended up finishing first in round robin play). The Aces gave up a couple early goals in the first period but responded with a great effort the rest of the way. Despite a number of scoring chances, the Aces weren't able to beat a very good Owen Sound goalie and lost 2-0. Rylee earned player of the game with her excellent defensive play as well as her role in several key faceoff plays that led to scoring chances.

The Aces participated in a tournament skills competition on Saturday afternoon against the other team in their division. Paige, Peyton V, Steph and Katelynn did a great job of representing their team in the 4 player relay race. Deirdre and Peyton BK participated in the shootout and Peyton BK didn't allow a goal on any of the shots she faced.

Game 4 was an elimination game versus West Oxford. The Aces had a slow start, allowing 2 goals in the early part of the first period. The Aces found their legs in the second period and played fast and aggressive for the rest of the game. The Aces generated a number of great scoring chances but were unable to beat a very good West Oxford goalie until the very end. With the goalie pulled, Paige scored on a rebound assisted by Laura and Cassie to make the score 2-1 with 37 seconds left. The Aces were able to get several more chances in the dying seconds but weren't able to score. The game ended with a 2-1 loss for the Aces. Steph was named player of the game for her inspired play and overall strong game.

Overall the Aces showed a lot of character and played great against some very good teams. The experience they gained from this tournament will serve them well as we move into league playoffs and provincial playdowns next week.
