Provincial Playdowns
Submitted By Rob Reinecker on Thursday, March 12, 2020
The Downie Optimists Bantam BB girls team matched up against the Huron Heat for provincial playdowns.

In game one on the road Kierstyn Hart led the way in net with a shutout in a 2 - 0 win. Avery Faulhaufer and Morgan Yantzi scored to give the Aces the series lead.    Game two in Stratford,  the Aces opened the scoring early in the first period as Taylor Neeb banged in a loose puck in front of the net. Yantzi and Addisyn Reinecker picked up assists on the goal. After that it was all Huron Heat as Hart faced over thirty shots. The Heat finally tied the game up with less than three minutes to go in the game. The game ended in a 1 - 1 tie with Hart being the star on the game.    Game three back in Seaforth the Aces needed a win or a tie to move on to provincials. Down 2 - 0 the Aces battled back to tie the game up as Alyssa Eidt and Zoe Nurse scored with less than 5 minutes left to play. Yantzi picked up another assist. But the Heat scored on the next shift and came away with a 4 - 2 win.    With the series tied at 3 points each the teams played a sudden death overtime period right away. With time winding down in overtime and the game looking towards another overtime period the Heat threw one last shot at the net and somehow scored with less than a second left to play. Putting an unfortunate end to the Aces season. Many thanks to the coaches, bench staff and everyone involved in the team this season.
