Notes
The Taylor Fluid Systems Aces team played their final game of the regular season this weekend, beating the Waterloo Ravens and solidifying first place in their respective division. The Aces finished their regular season off with a display of skill and team work that the coaches have instilled in them throughout the season. Ava Neumeister had the honours of starting between the pipes and as we have consistently seen throughout the season, she played an excellent game stopping all shots when called upon and recording yet another shutout to add to her already awesome stats. The defense also played an excellent game, keeping the Ravens to the outsides; moving/passing the puck from D to D and up the weak side; recognizing the opportunity to rush the puck, when presented; creating scoring chances when in the offensive zone. Creating these scoring chances was key to the victory against the Ravens. The scoring started at the 3:36 mark in the first period. Ella Taylor battled the puck from the half boards down to the corner where she passed in out front for an easy tip in by Josephine Jarmuth. E. Taylor wasn’t done yet. Just over one minute later Grace Laverty (who usually plays a defence position but was moved up to forward this game and did an awesome job filling the roll) made an excellent heads up pass to E. Taylor to send her on a breakaway. E. Taylor made no mistake beating the goalie for her second point of the game. The Aces third goal started early in the second period; Aveleen Flood strategically used the boards for a bank pass up to Katie Helson to send her on a breakaway. Helson took a hard shot at the hashmarks which had eyes sneaking its way through the goalie. The fourth goal was late in the second period by Josephine Jarmuth. She was positioned to the side of the net with her stick on the ice and was able to hammer home a rebound created by relentless pressure and multiple shots from the forwards and defense. The fifth and final goal of the game was late in the third period, Kara Rolph gained possession of the puck in the neutral zone and skated down the boards past the defending players, she maintained control of the puck and made a pass out to ready and waiting Anne Nickel who put the puck home. The last game of the regular season ended in a 5-0 victory. 15-1-6 to finish the regular season (29-5-10 including exhibition games and tournaments) 19 goals against in 22 regular season games and unbeaten in their last 14 games……this is not only a testament to the girls' hard work over the regular season but also to the coaches’. But neither the girls nor the coaches are done yet. To quote one of the coaches “Bring on the Playoffs!”
