NotesThe Perth Auto Dismantlers Atom A girls
took to the ice in game one of four guaranteed games in the hometown Aces
Festival Cup tournament. They say that a game is often decided in the first
five minutes of play, and even with a few close call minutes in the third
period, the girls set the tone and made sure the Ilderton Jets knew, they had
come to win.
Nearing
the end of the first period, the girls sent a definite message to the coaching
staff. “We've been listening.”
Starting with defenceman, Avery Randall passing to
winger, Eve Binns,
who in turn shot the puck over to winger, Lila Mortimer who indeed found the
net to start the scoring off at 1. Mortimer followed
this up a mere thirteen seconds later with a shot off a rebound, giving the
Aces the 2-0 edge at the end of the first.
The second period saw both teams battle end to end, but it
quickly became clear goaltender, Grace
Kipfer had practiced some serious power yoga, stretching
and sliding to keep the Jets out for the entire period.
The third period saw centreman Emersyn Miller start
the twelve minutes off with a quick goal, earning another assist for Randall,
bringing their lead to three. Things fell a bit off the rails after this,
seeing the Jets earn two quick goals immediately after.
In her first goal of the season, Paige Campbell went
five-hole on the Jet’s goaltender, giving the Aces some much needed breathing
room. With laser aim, winger Jayda
Houben solidified the Aces win with a bang on empty
netter.
Final score: 5-2 in favour of the Aces.
