The Stratford Accumetal Bantam A Aces had a successful first tournament of the year in Etobicoke this past weekend but came just short of earning a spot in the final game.
In their opener on Friday afternoon the Aces had to come from behind in the third period to earn a 3 to 3 tie with the Markham-Stouffville Stars.
Friday evening the girls added a win with a 2 to 0 shutout against the Flamborough Falcons.
The matchup against the host Etobicoke Dolphins on Saturday resulted in a penalty-filled 1 to 1 draw.
Needing a win to make the finals on Sunday morning the Aces faced a skilled and disciplined team in the Oakville Hornets.Down 2 to 1 with 4 minutes to go the Hornets scored again to put the final nail Stratford's coffin. This Oakville team ended up being the runners up in the tournament to another Oakville team.
Overall Stratford ended up with a record of 1 win, 1 loss and two ties with 7 goals for and 7 goals against in their 4 games.
