Aces hold Irish to 3, Schultz, Hartwick Smother Heat,
Aces Split Back to Back Games at Home

The Rod Smith Atom B Aces Hosted both the Lucan Irish and the Huron Heat in back to back days the Rotary Complex splitting the games while showing renewed inspiration and working together in break out play.

The high flying Irish entered the twin pad arena Sunday morning looking for a fight. The Aces, still licking their wounds from the last showdown with Lucan knew that they needed to contain their offence if they were to have a chance against the short benched and fast rotation star fire-powered lineup.  The Ace D led that day by a newly determined Pippa Nyenhuis, and fiercely supported by Clare Donnelly, Brooklyn Finnie, Avery Stokes, Adele Helson and Lily Hartwick  stood tall, forced play to the outside, would not be over run and would protect their mate Reece Flanagan who also stood tall against the Irish firepower. In the end it was all the Aces could do to hold off the Irish to 3.  The Ace offence tried, penetrated and were able to bury one with an excellent pass from winger Leighton Nickel to Ace sniper Appel holding on as the Irish skated away with a 3-1 victory.

Monday nights squalls formed by Lakes Huron's large reservoir of summer time warmth, the Huron Heat would bring it with them.  Through the onslaught of the early season white dust the Aces needed to desperately halt it's relentless eastward march.  the Stratford Rotary Centre is where the battle for its advancement would be contested.  With the lines drawn the Aces feet were firmly planted ready to hold off the Heat's searing attack forward.
This is where the communication and coordination of the Aces in their foxholes that until now had been sorely under utilized would begin to form to stop the advancement and take the battle back against Huron's battery of summertime heat.
With Commander Adele Helson taking the helm hollering directions to her troops the Ace Leader led the charge initiating tape to tape blue line passing with her mate Avery Stokes and thus re-engaging the united Helstoule blue line from their novice days and showing her team the the team moves forward when the puck passes cleanly through the teams ranks. Her initiative was not lost on rookie Ace Lily Hartwick who mid-way through the first propelled Chloe Schultz to the net to bang in her first of the year putting the Aces up 1-0. Rookie Hartwick was not finished as after a Heat offensive mount tied things up she went end to end from her own blue line and top shelved a clean bullet over the Heat netminder putting the Aces up 2-1. Ace command from Colonel Brianne Smith informed the troops that the battle does not end with a lead, they must now defend what they've gained.  Continual assaults on the Aces were thrown at them but the inspired ace blue line held firm to each wave of attack.  A late penalty would put the Aces down on a 6 on 4 with an empty Heat net but this last offensive stand would prove fruitless for the Heat and the Aces would prevail in halting the storm in Stratford this Monday night.

The Aces will keep their platoon camped at their home base to face new barrages this weekend as they help host the Aces Festival Cup, the pinnacle weekend of the Aces Girls Hockey Association.
