Great Showing At Pink The Rink
The Humphrey Fleet Service Aces Atom A team's unbeaten streak ended with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss in the 7:15 a.m. semifinal at the Pink the Rink tournament in Etobicoke, October 20.

The Aces opened the tourney versus the host Etobicoke Dolphins, October 18. The Aces dominated in the first but the game remained scoreless until Abby Van Bakel banked a shot off the defender's skate, then the goalie's skate and in, late in the second. With 2:40 to go in the third, Emersyn Miller won the draw and Van Bakel jammed it home to make it 2-0. The Dolphins ruined Chloe Rison's shutout bid with 22.8 seconds to go on a goal mouth scramble. The Aces faced off against the Sudbury Lady Wolves in game two, October 18 with Malaika Kibedi between the pipes. She was called on to make several big saves in the first including a huge glove save on a two on one with Miller in the box. Unfortunately, Sudbury took advantage of the extra attacker and capitalized on a rebound seconds later to go ahead 1-0.It seemed to fire up the Aces and after a pep talk between periods they came out strong in the second. Midway through the frame, Wilson's point shot was stopped but Ava Harmer got a piece of it and Jule Cameron tapped it home. A minute later, Jayda Houben found Miller and she worked her magic to give the Aces the lead. With three minutes left in the second, Maeve Moss' point shot was tipped by Krista McMahon and Miller banked it off the goalie and in.Van Bakel made it 4-1 early in the third on a beautiful solo effort. The Lady Wolves cut  the lead to 4-2 on another power play late in the third. The Aces defenders Emma Van Nes, Kylin Wilson, Eden Fraser, Moss and Camryn Medhurst did a great job in the absence of Maren Marshall. The Aces took on the North Simcoe Capitals from Barrie, October 19. The Aces controlled possession and had numerous quality scoring chances but couldn't buy a goal until late in the second. Miller's shot was stopped but McMahon jumped on the rebound with 31 seconds left. Midway through the third, McMahon was credited with the second of the game. Harmer and Wilson picked up assisted. Houben and Miller set up Abby Van Bakel with two minutes left. Rison turned aside every shot she faced to earn the shutout as the Aces team defense effectively shut down the Capitals offense. With three wins the Aces finished first in pool A, and that set up a 7:15 a.m. semifinal Sunday versus the north Toronto Leaside Wildcats. After handing out a bench minor to Leaside early in the first the officials put their whistles away. The teams exchanged chances in the opening frame and Kibedi came up with a big pad stop on a breakaway in the dying seconds of the first. Unfortunately, a bad bounce midway through the second eluded her. The Aces fought hard to generate chances but were stymied by a hot goalie. They appeared to tie it up a couple times but weren't rewarded.  The Aces are back in action October 27 when they host the St. Thomas Panthers at the RBC arena at 11:30 a.m.
