Guelph Tournament
A weekend in Guelph for the Sommers Generator Systems Peewee A team proved to be quite the challenge.
The girls knew they would be facing top teams from other Lower Lakes loops and they were going to have to work hard to be successful! Two games were on tap for Friday. The first one against a physical Guelph team. It was the Aces who struck first when Sadie sent a pass over to Hailey who made no mistake and found the back of the net...1-0 after two. However, in the third period, Guelph put in two unanswered goals to take the win. After a quick post game chat it was time to regroup before game two.
Game two was against the Aurora Panthers. The girls came out flying after an afternoon together and scored 4 goals to take the win 4-1. Clara, Ella, Sadie and Haddie scored with assists going to Kiara, Shauna, Ashley and Clara. Carley recorded the win in net. The Aces were back on track.
An early morning third game against a tough Clearview team was going to test the girls! The puck was dropped and from the beginning of the game our girls skated hard, forechecked, made passes and missed the net!!! The girls had so many chances but just couldn’t beat the solid Clearview goalie! A 2-0 loss was recorded despite the great game! It was time for breakfast and a chance to regroup, once again, before their next game!
The Aces faced the Ancaster Avalanche in their final game of the round robin. The girls knew it would be their toughest game as Ancaster had beaten every other team by at least 3 goals! A good, quick warm-up and the Aces were ready! From the moment the puck was dropped our girls skated hard and forechecked even harder! We spent a lot of time in Ancaster's end and again, many chances were had but getting one past the Avalanche goalie was not meant to be. The game finished with a 1-0 loss and ended any chance of moving forward in the tournament. However, the girls now know that they can skate with the top A teams and are looking forward to some rematches at Provincials!! A good weekend, girls...nothing to hang your heads about!!
