At the
crack of dawn, there was a dressing room full of anticipation as the girls
prepared for a Friday morning practice. This
was no ordinary practice; this was a practice with a real life NHL player. The Rod Smith Novice B Stratford Aces were
stepping on the ice with Joey Hishon to learn from the best in the first of 3
skills lessons.
The coaching and training staff noted the tuned in listening skills and the amazed looks on the girls faces as Joey demonstrated each of the skills to the girls. Even the coaches on the ice took a few pointers from the skills and realized they had passed their primes long ago.
After a solid warm up of working on their edges, while decking inside and out of the obstructions on the ice, the girls broke into 4 groups and worked on a variety of different skating, shooting and passing drills.
The girls look forward to the remaining sessions with Joey and wanted to pass on a heartfelt thank you for the advice and the skills learned this morning.
