The Stratford Atomic 1's played the Stratford Atomics 2's on Saturday at the Allman in a hard fought, end to end exciting game. The Atomic 1's struck early with Olivia Watts scoring on a back hander fed from Sammy Orr at 7:31 of the first period. Watts' goal seemed to loosen both teams up, and the game suddenly turned into an end to end wide open affair. At 9:31 of the second, Madeline Tourigny of the Atomic 2's took a pass from Grace Neely, skated over the blue line and fired a rocket into the far corner of the Atomic 1 net. The Atomic 2's continued the pressure and at 3:01 of the second, Madeline Tourigny was back. This time she pocketed a goal off of a pass from Grace Neely and put the Atomic 2's up 2-1. The Atomic 1's refused to let the back to back goals get the better of them and with 2:22 remaining in the second,Emma Blowes pulled off a unassisted rush. This left the game tied as the teams headed into the third. Very quickly into the third at 10:39, Grace Neely squeezed the puck between the Atomic 1 goalie Madeline Mortimer and the goal post. Despite being down 3-2 the Atomic 1's remained calm. They starred a potential loss in the face, refusing to give up. Then at 9:09 of the third Lauren Marten sniped a shot past the Atomic 2 goalie Dani Ramseyer and tied the match. For the remainder of the game, both teams had numerous chances keeping all parents on the edge of their seats. Unfortunately neither team could find the netting and the game expired with both teams coming away with a draw which leaves the Battle of Stratford title unclaimed until their next meeting.
