NotesAfter a series of tough losses, the Stratford Kinsmen Intermediate Aces finally recorded their first win of the second half of their KW Local League season Sunday, defeating Stratford's other KW team, Sirkel Foods 4-1 at the Dufferin arena.
The Kinsmen Aces opened the scoring early in the first period on a breakaway goal by Kirsten Matthews, assisted by Mary McDonnell. Less than one minute into the second period the Kinsmen took a 2-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Emma Drake.
Halfway through the third frame, Sirkel Foods got on the board, as Alieda Boerson picked up a loose puck in front of the Kinsmen net and fired one past netminder Alexa Groenestege. This would be Sirkel's last goal, however as Groenestege made a number of key saves, giving the Kinsmen Aces a chance to record two insurance markers on goals by Stacy Koot, assisted by Chelsey Pflance and an empty netter by McDonnell.
Brittanny Johnston put in a valiant effort in goal for Sirkel Foods in the loss.
The two meet again tomorrow evening at the Rotary Complex as they battle for the fourth and final playoff spot.
