ON Saturday, the Atomic 1's travelled to Cambridge looking for a win to move them closer to the final playoff spot. The girls were tense and quickly found themselves behind 1-0 at 7:42 of the first period. The goal against seemed to calm the Atomics down as their passing started to work. The Atomic sent countless rushes and had many break aways but unfortunately the Cambridge goalie turned everything away. Finally at 7:40 of the third, Emma "Bobby Orr" Blowes took the puck behind the Atomic net, looked down ice with determination and went for it. Passing 4 Cambridge players along the way, Blowes made a nice saucer pass in front of the net to Zoe Hill who finished the rush by depositing the puck in the far corner.
The Atomic's continued the pressure up but the Cambridge keeper appeared like she was not going to let another piece of rubber behind her. With 2.8 seconds left in the game, Meg Feore made other plans for the Cambridge Goalie. Feore retrieved the puck in front of the net and repeatedly hammered the black disk until it had no choice but to go in the net. Assists in the assault went to Michelle Messerschmidt and Vivi Stroh. A great last second win for the Atomics! Special mention to Keira Akey for having another sound game in net.
