Submitted By Jan Ballantyne on Wednesday, January 2, 2013
The Sirkel Foods Stratford Midget HL Aces won gold at the Jason Cripps Memeorial Tournament held in Kitchener over the Christmas Holidays. The Aces opened the tournament defeating Waterloo 2-1 ,

Ali Bell scored the opening goal assisted by Rachel Luckhart and Lydia Mueller and Graver put the game away with an emtpty netter. Kitchener was next to fall as the Aces rolled to a 6-0 victory finishing 1st in pool play. Both Mueller and Claire Roulston scored twice while Taylor Groenestege and Jayne Kirby chipped in one goal each. Assists went to Ali Bell with three, Roulston with two, Mueller, Grenestege, Roxanne VanDam and Kirby. In the semi final game, strong defensive play stalled a late push from another Waterloo team in which the Aces won 3-1. Lindsay Neeb, Smith and Mueller scored with Luckhart assisting twice and Hailey Doell and Hannah Bush each assisting once from the back end. The final game was a defensive struggle against Grand River as neither team created many scoring opportunities. The game remained a 0-0 tie until Groenestege scored the game winner with only 2 minutes left on the clock assisted by Boersen. Emily Strawbridge earned the shutout and played well all tournament.
