NotesAces back in the win column
On Friday the Taylor Fluid Systems Peewee C Stratford Aces went on
the road to take on the St. Mary’s Rock. With some vacant spots on the bench,
Coach Chris called up Paige Taylor and Rachel Barber from the Dunny’s Source for
Sports Atom C team to help bolster the roster.
The Aces owned the time of possession in the first two periods, but
when the Rock forwards managed to break out on a rush, Ava Neumeister was solid
between the pipes. The Rock’s first real
chance to get on the board came on the power play mid-way through the second,
but the Aces’ defense did a great job of setting up traffic in the shooting
lanes, preventing pucks from getting through to their net-minder.
Scoring opened early in the third as line-mates Taylor Neeb and
Alanah McIlroy set Ally Wheal up with a one-timer that beat the goalie high. The Aces kept pressing the attack,
maintaining pressure throughout the period.
Avery Faulhafer worked the puck in deep, maneuvered towards the net
between two defenders and then with a nifty toe-drag, flipped the puck into the
net, putting the Aces up 2-0.
With 5:27 left in the contest, Josie Walker was sent to the box
giving the Rock a ray of hope. Stingy
defense at the blue line allowed Rowan Aitken to steal the puck and go
streaking down the ice with Ally Wheal skating hard for the net. Rowan took the puck in deep, drawing the lone
Rock defender to her side, and then made a cross-ice pass to Ally who tipped it
into the back of the net, securing her first multi-goal game of the season.
Final score Aces 3, Rock 0.
The Aces are at home to the Tillsonburg Lightning on Sunday and hope
to head into the holidays with a win.
