NotesLightning Strikes
On Sunday,
October 28th, the previously undefeated Tillsonburg Lightning stormed into the
Stratford Rotary Complex to take on the Taylor Fluid Systems Peewee C Stratford
Aces.
The Aces were coming off back to
back wins against Mitchell and South Huron and they were eager to test
themselves against the Lightning squad.
As their name
would suggest, the Lightning were a fast team, and right out of the gate they
matched the Aces’ intensity stride for stride.
In the first period, both teams played aggressive, well disciplined
hockey, each defense bending at times but never breaking.
Mid-way through
the second, the Lightning forwards set a screen, allowing a high wrister from
their defense to beat the Aces’ agile net-minder, putting the Lightning up 1-0.
Unfazed, the
Aces maintained the pressure with strong skating and determined puck
pursuit. As time ticked away in the
third, the Aces pulled their goalie to send another attacker into the fray, but
an untimely whistle forced the face-off back into the Aces’ zone and Ava
returned to her post between the pipes.
In the end the
Lightning prevented the Aces from scoring the equalizer and escaped the Rotary
Complex with their undefeated record intact.
Next Sunday the
Aces travel to the Alvinston Community Centre Complex to take on the Lambton Attack.
