NotesThe Accumetal Bantam A Aces has a successful weekend playing in the Durham West Lightning tournament this family day week-end. The Aces started out of the gate strong on Friday morning as they met up with the Sudbury Wolves. The Aces won the match 2-1. All three goals were scored in the eventful second period. Aces goals were scored by Lily Daum, and Abby Gilchrist, with helpers from Megan Bailey, Hailey Goforth, and Ally Muir. The second game on Friday had the Aces matched up against the Belleville Bearcats. Although Stratford was a little rusty in the game, they still came out on the winning end of the 4-2 final. Megan Bailey, Ally Muir, Emily Krueger, and Sara Bailey netted the puck for Stratford. In the third round robin game on Saturday afternoon, the Aces met the host team Durham Lightning and both teams played a fantastic game. Both teams proved to be evenly matched as the game ended in a 0-0 tie. With two wins and a tie, the Aces ended up sitting second in their pool and were once again matched up against the host team in the semi-final game Saturday night. Both teams came ready to play and demonstrated once again how evenly matched they are. Abby Gilchrist Scored in the second period for the Aces, assisted by Hailey Goforth. The game was tied after regular time expired and forced a 4 on 4 sudden death overtime. Despite having to play the first two minutes of the overtime shorthanded, the Aces held off the Lightning and the game went to a shoot out. Sydnie Miller scored in the initial 3 man shoot out for Stratford, however Durham scored as well which then led to a sudden death shoot out. After 6 unsuccessful attempts by both teams, Durham eventually found the net and ended up winning the game. Stratford goalies Kayley Thompson and Hailey Pfaff should be congratulated on their fabulous week-end play as should the rest of the Stratford Aces team.
