Notes
The Accumetal Bantam A Aces won the Gold medal this past week-end in their host tournament - The Stratford Aces Festival Cup Challenge.
On Friday the Aces came out stomping and took a commanding 4-0 win over the Barrie Sharks. All three forward lines found the back of the net with goals from Sarah Bailey, Emma Gansevles, Hailey Goforth and Emily Krueger. Hailey Pfaff recorded the shut out for the Aces. The girls second game on Friday was against the Brantford Ice Cats, and despite some penalty trouble, the Aces pulled through for the 1-0 win. Ally Muir scored for Stratford, while Kayley Thompson recorded the shut out in net.
On Saturday afternoon, the Aces met up with the Ottawa Valley Thunder and fell 2-1 for their only loss of the tournament. Sarah Bailey scored the lone Aces goal. On Saturday night, the Aces needed a tie or a win in order to advance to the final game on Sunday and they pulled it off, defeating the Bluewater Hawks 2-0. Hailey Goforth and Ally Muir each scored their second of the tournament and Keyley Thompson recorded her second shut out advancing the Aces to the final game.
The final show down was held on Sunday and the Aces were matched up against the Ottawa Valley Thunder for the second time this week-end. Ottawa came out strong and scored late in the first period. The Aces rebounded late in the second period with a blistering point shot from Sara Campbell. Regulation time ended in a 1-1 tie and the girls played a suspense filled 5 minute over time period. Both teams had lots of opportunities but Hailey Pfaff was solid in net for Stratford and neither team was able to score which led to a shoot out. Each team sent three shooters to the line and all were denied, until the fourth Stratford shooter Emily Kruger fired the puck through the five hole of the Ottawa goalie and scored. Ottawa's fourth shooter was not able to do the same and the Aces won the championship game. All the girls on the team should be congratulated for a great showing during the tournament.
