Notes--- Accumetal Bantam A Aces - Hamilton Hawks Hawkey Tournament April 4-6th 2014 ---
The
Accumetal Bantam A Aces competed this past weekend in the Hamilton Hawks Hawkey
tournament in preparation for the upcoming provincials this weekend, and ended
up losing to the tournament winners Aurora Panthers in Sundays semi-finals.
The Aces began the tournament in the
right direction with a strong victory against the Kitchener Lady Rangers with
Erin Kuepfer getting 2 goals and and assist on the other goal. After a
scoreless first period Kuepfer rushed the puck up the left side and with the a
back hand shot went bar down to beat the Kitchener
goalie. In the third period, Leah Matthews scored with a strong shot from the
blue line. Kuepfer earned the assist. Kuepfer finished the scoring with a hard
wrist shot from the top of the circles with Kaitlyn Mathieson earning the
assist. Making a game saving breakaway
stop, in the second period, Megan Jesse earned the shutout. The Aces next faced off against St.Catherines
Choas Saturday morning and came away with a 0-0 tie. The Aces had numerous
chances but could not find the back of the net. Earning the shutout for Stratford was Creasyn Jordan. Saturday night the Aces
faced off the Etobicoke Dolphins and came away with a 2-0 win. Kuepfer set the
tone of the game by scoring 28 seconds into the game, earning the assist was
Anna Mohr. With 4 seconds left in the second period Mohr netted the insurance
marker with Mathieson getting the helper. The win against Etobicoke placed the
Aces in 1st place in their pool, and placed them against the Aurora
Panthers. Megan Jesse recorded the shutout.
In Sunday mornings semi-final game, Stratford came up short and lost
3-0. There were chances for the Aces but they could not find the back of the
net. The coaching staff is proud of the
all the girls for a well done job this weekend.
The team also includes Laura Skinner, Halle Blowes, Laura Chapman, Carly
Plain, Tessa Deighton, Nicolle Crowley, Megan Rauser, Abbey Debus, Madeline
Corrie, Paige Bryn and call up Allison Zimmerman.
