ATOM B ACES BRING HOME GOLD MEDAL FROM ST. CATHERINES TOURNY!!

The Atom B Aces travelled to St. Catherines for their first tournament of the season.

They won their first game Friday afternoon 7-0 against the Clarington Flames, making a strong start and building the girls confidence. Abby Gilchrist led the Aces offence with 3 goals and one assist, while Sophie Bogdon had a 4 point game as well with a goal and three assists. Other Aces goals were scored by Ryley Jacobs, Sydnie Miller, and Neely Clarke. Ella Wouters recorded her first of 3 shut-outs of the tournament.

In game two on Saturday morning, the Aces allowed the only goal against them in the entire tournamet playing against the North Durham Blades. Stratford's goal scorers were Abby Gilchrist, Sydnie Miller, Sophie Bogdon, and Neely Clarke. Gilchrist had another two assists, along with Sophie Bogdon and Anika Akroyd-Snider.

After a long break between games on Saturday, the Aces headed back to the rink 9 hours later to meet the West Seneca Wings. The Aces started out a little slow, and the game was scoreless after the first period. Once the second period started the Aces started to pick up the pace again and ended up putting the puck in the net 8 times. Hailey Goforth recorded the hat-trick this game, as well as an assist. Neely Clarke added two goals of her own, and singles were scored by Gilchrist, McKenzie Dietrich, and Mia Kuepfer. Ella Wouters notched her second shut-out.

After going undefeated in round robin play, the Aces advanced to the final game Sunday afternoon where they met the undefeated Woodstock Wildcats. Both teams had a number of scoring chances but after three periods of play, the game was still scoreless. The game went into a five minute sudden death overtime period, but both goalies made a number of great saves which led to a shoot out. The Wildcats scored first in the shoot out, but Aces, McKenzie Diethrich quickly answered with a goal of her own. After three shooters the game was still undecided. The fourth shooter for the Aces, Sydnie Miller, scored on a great shot, while Aces goalie Ella Wouters denied the Woodstock shooter giving the Aces the win!!

Each and every player put forth a very strong team effort during the final game and deserve the gold medals they worked hard for.

Ella Wouters was awarded the final game MVP after an amazing weekend between the pipes.
