Atom B Aces win Gold in exciting fashion in Woodstock!!
The Atom B Aces won their second tournament of the season this past week-end.

The Aces opened the tourny by playing the eventual silver medalists, Woodstock Wildcats on Friday morning. Both teams came out strong but had to settle for a 0-0 tie. Aces goal tender Ella Wouters recorded her first of three shut-outs of the weekend. Anika Akroyd-Snider, and Lauren Steel played well on defence for the Aces.

Friday afternoon, the Aces went on a scoring spree and won a solid game against the Stoney Creek Sabres 9-0. Abby Gilchrist lead the way with two goals and a total of six points for Stratford. Ryley Jacobs, McKenzie Dietrich, Emma Gansevles, Sydnie Miller, Hailey Goforth, Danielle Bast, and Sophie Bogdon, each added singles in the all around team effort.

After a long layoff on Saturday the Aces met up with the Belmont early in the evening. Defencemen Amber Van Nes netted a beauty from the point, to lead the Aces to a 4-0 victory. Neely Clarke, Hailey Goforth, and Mia Kuepfer each added singles. Kaeley Dunseith, and Jessica Rae were solid on the blue line.

On Sunday morning, the girls were matched up against the St. Marys Rock in a must win game. The Aces started out a little slow, but midway through the second period, Sydnie Miller scored her first of two in the game to give the Aces the push forward. Neely Clarke and McKenzie Dietrich also scored for Stratford. The game ended in a 4-1 win for the Aces which advanced them to the championship game Sunday afternoon against the host Woodstock Wildcats.

The final game saw the Aces start off a little sluggish, and when the Wildcats scored in the second period, things did not look good. If not for the strong play of goal tender Wouters and the entire defense, the game would not have ended favorably. Finally in the third period, Amber Van Nes fired another bullet from the point and scored for Stratford which seemed to ignite the fire for the Aces. At the end of three regular periods, the game was tied 1-1. An exciting 5 minute overtime period was played with a number of scoring opportunities for both teams, however neither team could put the puck in the net. The game went into a shoot-out. Abby Gilchrist, the first shooter for Stratford netted a beautiful goal, but the third shooter for Woodstock did the same. Stratford's fifth shooter, Neely Clarke fired the eventual winner, in the sudden death round as Aces goalie Ella Wouters stopped the next Wildcats shooter to win the game.
