Aces Shutout Irish and Sabres on Weekend
The Dunny’s Source for Sports Atom C Stratford Aces posted two shutouts to finish the weekend 1-0-1.

On Saturday, the Aces faced off against the previously undefeated Lucan Irish. The first period set the tone for the game, with both teams creating chances, but failing to score on the opposing netminder. Early in the second, goalie Peyton Boyles-Keating came up with a terrific secondary save off of a rebound, providing the girls with some spark.  The Aces started taking it to the Irish and were rewarded late in the period when Abby Iacobellis banked one in off the Irish netminder from behind the goal line.  Assisting on the goal was Paige Taylor. Two minutes into the third, the line of Katie Wheal, Abby Iacobellis and Katelyn McMahon put together a great shift. A nifty passing play from Wheal to Iacobellis to McMahon, sprung McMahon on a mini breakaway inside the offensive zone, where Katelyn wasted little time burying one past the Irish netminder and put the Aces up 2-0. With a scramble in front of the net in the dying seconds of the game, Boyles-Keating came up big to preserve the shutout.  Final score 2-0, Aces On Sunday, the Aces skated to a 0-0 tie versus the South Huron Sabres.  Coach Darcy was very pleased with their effort.  Darcy commented that “The girls played a good team game for sure.  Skating was better and they forced lots of turnovers off of their forecheck”. From the start to finish, the Aces carried the pace of play, several end to end rushes led to a number of scoring opportunities.  Brinlee Wall just missed netting her first of the season when she pushed a rebound wide in first.  In the second, Paige Taylor made a nice feed to Abby Iacobellis on a two on one only to be robbed by the goalie for the Sabres.  Coach Taylor felt the defensive corps did a great job of holding the blue line and keeping the puck in the offensive zone throughout the game. The Aces travel to Sarnia next Saturday, and play the Huron Heat at home on Sunday.
