Aces Dominate Bluewater Hawks
The Optimist Club of Downie Midget A Aces finished off the weekend with a win over the Bluewater Hawks, 6-1. The Aces were slow to start allowing an early goal by the Hawks but rebounded quickly with lots of fire power. Caroline McDowell pressured well with great fore-checking and back-checking the entire game. McDowell led the offence with two goals and an assist. Shannon Jewitt was sharp at the point with several good shots and one goal and an assist. Taegan Haynes played a great two way game, protecting the goalie on defense and jumping up the ice for several scoring opportunities. Emily Patterson, Nicole Marriage, and Katelyn Hawkins rounded out the scoring. Goaltender, Megan Jackson, clinched the win.
Earlier in the weekend, the Aces tied the Burlington Barracudas, 1-1, in exhibition play. The Aces showed great determination in the game moving the puck nicely to create a lot of shots on net. Jaime Van Nes notched the lone goal, assisted by Nicole Marriage. Megan Jackson played well in net turning away the Burlington offence until late in the game.
