After being on the short end for the first 2 games in the series, the Downie Optimist MAA Aces came up with a gritty effort Tuesday vs. the Saugeen Maitland Lightning for a 1-1 tie in OWHA Playdowns. After a scoreless first, Rachel Koot kept the play onside with a pass to Shannon Jewitt who unloaded a shot right along the ice that Jess Barton tipped to take a 1-0 lead. That lead would hold till the Lightning tied it up on a 5 on 3 with 1:47 left in the game. Holly Deighton made 38 saves in a flawless effort in goal for the Aces. The game was a costly one as Erica Mack was hit from behind into the boards late in the third and had to leave the game with a rib injury. The Lightning lead the series 5 points to 1. The series continues Sunday at 4:00PM at RBC.

The coaching staff of the MAA Aces has been contacted by Jeff Pellegrini, Assistant Coach for the Harvard Crimsom, to invite 3 of the current MAA Ace players to the Havard Summer Camp at the end of June.
Mr.Pellegrini sent an email to Head Coach Rick Nelson and Assistant Coach Steve Scott, just prior to Christmas asking about the 3 girls. The girls and their parents were naturally honoured and flattered when given the news.
As MAA hockey is all about exposure, it is good to know we have players coming through our system that are being noticed for their talents on the ice.
Congratulations to the players involved!
