Romeo Optometry U11B went 1-1 this weekend with a big win and a tough loss. Saturday saw the Aces play the Guelph Gryphons on home ice. The game started strong with a goal by Grey Duchesne only two minutes in. Shay Williams had an awesome back check in the first stopping a sure breakaway. Madeleine Nickel dug hard to get Alexandra McKay's rebound for goal two in the first. Shortly after Katie Price made a beauty pass up the ice to Annie Thompson who got a shot that was quickly picked up by Grey Duchesne for goal three. Alexandra McKay blazed up the ice for goal four of the period. Ally Chadwick picked up another rebound for goal five. Goals six and seven both by Annie Thompson were made on some great passes by Alexandra McKay and Madeleine Nickel!
The second period started as strong as the first as Annie Thompson dug away for goal eight to complete her hatty! Regular defence Brooklyn Beattie picked up goal nine. The girls were starting to loose some steam but Aexandra McKay turned it around with a big breakaway lending to her second goal of the day.
In the third Aubrie Smith, Madeleine Nickel, Avyn Porter and Grey Duchesne held the defensive lines. While Elliot Berg, Brooklyn Beattie, Katie Price, and Natalie Helson took on offensive roles proving the U11B teams versatility. Adeline Rae pulled out all the stops to earn herself a shutout, stopping a two on none in the third. A late third period penalty resulted in a penalty shot for the Gryphons. Adeline Rae stood up like the brick wall she is and made one heck of save! Final score 10-0 Aces!
The Aces were up bright and early on the road to Kincardine Sunday morning. The game started out strong with a goal by Madeleine Nickel early in the first. The girls were playing hard but Kincardine matched their goal and the first period ended 1-1. The second period started as strong as the first. Natalie Helson held strong at the blue line. Annie Thompson made a big rush up the ice for a shot on net. Katie Price's defensive back check and dirty dangles were keeping the puck out of the defensive zone. Adeline Rae was holding strong in net with a few amazing saves. The girls kept working away as Avyn dug the puck out of the corner out to Grey Duchesne who passed over to Annie and she poked it in the net! Again Kincardine wouldn't let us leave the second period ahead and they scored with only 7 seconds left. The third started the Aces decline as Kincardine chipped away. Ally Chadwick was a force in the third getting back to the zone to help her team. Brooklyn Beattie put the puck up the ice to Grey Duchesne who broke out for a scoring opportunity but just couldn't sink it. Sunday's game ended in a 7-2 loss for the Aces.
