U11B were on the road again to the South Huron Pink in the Rink Tournament this past weekend.
An awesome weekend of hockey played with the girls winning not one but two games in shootouts!
Game 1 was vs rival St. Mary's Rock team . The girls started out strong with Annie breaking out of their own end on a beauty pass up the middle. As the period wore on both Madeleine Ally and Grey got shots on net but just couldn't sink it. First period ended 0-0 with some intense play in our own end. Natalie and Brooklyn cleared the net time and time again. Early in the second Stratford got their first goal when Grey passed from behind the net to Madeleine and she dug away for the goal. Avyn drew a penalty late in the second leading to our first power play of the game. Again team work paid off and Alexandra and Aubrie worked together to push another one into the net leaving the second period 2-0 for Stratford. The third started off as exciting as the rest as Elliot laid the lumber on and got a penalty. The girls played a perfect penalty kill with Katie dumping the puck up the ice more than once. St. Mary's managed to get their first goal late in the second. Everyone was on edge during the intense game, coach Mark even tried out his reffing skills! St.Marys ended up poking one more in on a slow whistle and the game ended 2-2 leading to our first shootout of the weekend! Avyn started us off with the first goal of the shootout, shots were also made by Alexandra and Annie. Addy shut down three straight shooters and the girls had their first win of the tournament!!
Game 2 saw the aces play first place team Ilderton Jets. The girls played hard as per usual in the first only letting up one goal. We saw some great passes from Annie, Shay and Avyn up the ice. Madeleilne scored our only goal on an assist from Aubrie. After a brief breakdown during the second, seeing Ilderton get 3 goals, the girls got it back together. Defensemen all did a great job clearing our end and looking for someone to pass to. Brooklyn had great hussle and managed to stop a breakaway late in the second. The girls battled hard but came up short with 5-1 loss to the Jets.
Game 3 the girls went neck in neck with the Lucan Irish. Another strong first period saw shots on net by Madeleine, Grey, Ally and Shay. Brooklyn and Natalie also took some big shots from the point! Lucan came out hot in the second but Addy managed to shut them down. Avyn, Aubrie and Alexandra almost sunk one during and exciting moment in the second. Addy again saved the day with a beauty stop right off the faceoff. Elliot and Katie worked hard on defense managing to get themselves out of the hot pocket more than once. The third followed and Stratford played some awesome penalty kill minutes. Aubrie battled it out on the boards and Annie made some more stellar passes. The game ended 0-0 leading to our second shootout of the tournament! The shootout went to 6 shooters with Addy shutting them all down in an amazing feat!! Avyn, Grey, Elliot, Ally, and Alexandra all shot for the aces with Madeleine getting the game winner!
The girls ended up second in their pool and were off to game Game 4. The aces were up bright and early to head to Hensall and play St. Marys Rock. The girls tried hard but couldn't pull off a win. Addy stood on her head making some huge break away saves. Game ended 5-1 for St. Marys with Stratfords only goal scored by Grey, assisted on a beauty pass by Ally.
Overall another great weekend in the books. The girls played some of their best hockey yet!
