Despite shutdowns Aces Roll into Playoffs a Polished Team
Aces C Prove Formidable Against Division Leaders Woodstock Wildcats

Covid 19 restriction once again got in the way of perfectly good hockey and forced the Aces C team back into the hallowed dungeons of you tube and mindless tik tok videos, absent was the direction and the encouragement and the confidence building of a damn good hockey team.

Nevertheless, as soon as we could muster the thought of allowing us to reclaim the enormous benefit of activity over solace, the Aces C squad now needed to fill a 2-month void in play time and to everyone’s amazement, picked up right where they left off.  The girls traveled to Woodstock February 3rd and brought outside’s storm into the civic arena with a show of force against the Wildcats.  They dominated play and push themselves and the wildcats to their limit. Shot in the game were easily 3:1 in favour of the Aces, they cycled the puck efficiently and kept at the towering Wildcat netminder, solving her brick wall twice with goals from Lydia Mclaughlin and a 0.4 second left buzzer beater in the third form Vittoria Brander in a 3-2 defeat.

The Aces would go on to host the St. Mary’s Rock on Saturday where a routing helped boost the girls confidence against the fledgling Rock squad.  Goals came from Selina Gethke (2), Katie Wheal (2), Lydia Mclaughlin (4), Leighton Nickel (3), Chloe Pethick (2), Emerie Smith (2), Charlee MacFarlane. Assists came from the entire squad including 2 from Ivy Hurley Demers.

Finally on Sunday the Aces hosted the Division leading Wildcats where they once against proved to be the dominant team taking the play to the Wildcats. This time with a goal from Selina Gethke who crashed the net with Katie Wheal, and excellent backstopping from Ivy Demers the girls held the Wildcats to a 1-1 draw.

The girls now roll into the playoffs where they meet the Lambeth Lancers to start the round robin playoff format that will continue into March.
