Aces Preseason Battle Continues in Huron
Ace Gunners Warm up Their Sticks in Huron’s Banana Belt - Demers Backstops a Tough Loss to Round out the Week of Three in the Heart of Huron

The Abtron Electric U13 Peewee Aces continued their pre-season tinkering as coaches Nickel, Gethke and Smith hustle their lineups – and the opposition – in hopes of providing an upending surprise when the regular season begins. The squad boasts diverse talent – speed, finesse and size and the bench staff is making full use of this arsenal to build a formidable team to excel in the upcoming WOGHL regular season.
The Aces hosted the South Huron Sabres B squad on Friday October 15, at the Rotary Complex for the first leg of a home and home series. Leighton Nickel and Lydia McLaughlin netted the aces pair of goals in the 5-2 loss. The troops from the cultured hub of Perth County travelled to Exeter on a rain-soaked Saturday where Katie Wheal nabbed the lone Ace goal against a large B squad from the bowels of desolate southern Huron County.

In the weekday matchup Monday the Aces travelled to Central Huron to meet the Huron Heat C squad which proved to be the most entertaining match of the three.  Ivy Hurley-Demers held the Aces in the back-and-forth match at the Seaforth Arena. Leighton Nickel opened the scoring early putting the gunners up 1-0.  The Heat responded late in the first to tie things up 1-1. Katie Wheal then finished off a passing connection from Selina Gethke and Charlee MacFarlane putting the Aces up 2-1. Brinlee Wall shone at the point hammering pucks at the net from the blue line to propel the Ace attack in the second. The score held up deep into the third where Demers faced an onslaught of pucks from strong Heat pressure stopping a point blank set up from the corner mid-third. The Heat’s intensity finally broke the gunners as the Aces gave up 2 late for a devastating 3-2 loss.

The Abtron Electric Aces travel to Ontario’s highland games capital for a Saturday matinee against the West Oxford Inferno to round out exhibition play before the season begins in earnest October 29 where the Aces host the Heat in the highly anticipated home opening spectacular at the Rotary Arena.
