Coming Together at The Right Time
The Downie Optimist Bantam BB girls played in the Guelph Winterfest hockey tourmament this past weekend.

In game 1 against  Mississauga Stratford opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Alexis Insley assisted from Brooklyn Chadwick. In the second period the Aces exploded with three goals from Chadwick, Zoe Nurse and Morgan Yantzi. The Aces scored three more in the third with goals by Chadwick, Taylor Neeb and Yantzi . Kierstyn Hart recorded the shutout in the 7-0 win. The second game on Friday against Kitchener the Aces came out strong offensively but couldn't finish any of their scoring chances. Kitchener opened the scoring in the second period but Nurse replied back to tie the game at 1. For the rest of the game goaltender Hart shone to keep the game tied.Saturday the Aces faced league rival Lakeshore. Similar to the previous game, Lakeshore scored first but Alyssa Eidt replied shortly thereafter. Hart shutdown Lakesore the rest of the way for another 1-1 tie.Claiming second place in their pool the Aces faced off against Guelph in the playoffs. Jaelyn Meinen scored in the first period. After Guelph tied it up part way through the third Nurse scored from a set up from Avery Faulhaufer. Josephine Jarmuth scored on a breakaway and Insley scored into and empty net for a 4-1 win.Early Sunday against Waterloo in the semi-finals Waterloo scored early. Stratford applied some pressure but could get a goal. Waterloo scored twice in the third. But Stratford didn't give up and with the goalie pulled got a goal from Yantzi. Goalie Hart shone again dispite the 3-1 loss.It was a great effort all weekend by the entire team.
