    What A Series!

The Cooper Standard Bantam A Aces met up with the Saugeen-Maitland Lightning two more times this weekend to determine which team would move on in their quest for a spot at Championship weekend. The second game of the series took place on Saturday afternoon and ended in a 1-1 tie once again, as the girls battled hard. Goalie, Mia Morris, kept the game close with some awesome saves! The Aces goal was scored by Ashlyn Witt, on a nice shot over the goalie’s shoulder, assisted by Eve Greig. Two games, two ties...both teams left the rink with two points each.

The third and final game of the series took place in Teeswater on Sunday afternoon. The winner would advance to the next round!

The Aces started the game with some aggressive forechecking by the forwards, Haddie McLaughlin, Anna Tigani, Meg Feore, Sadie MacArthur, Ella VanBakel, Hailey Zurell, Ashley Radford, Eve Greig and Ashlyn Witt. There was a lot of back and forth play but after one period, there was still no score.

The second period started and within the first two minutes, Sadie MacArthur picked up the puck in the Lightning end and did some quick dekes around their defence to score the first goal of the game, unassisted. The game continued, again with many chances at both ends! After two periods, the score was 1-0 for the Aces!

The third period started after a quick intermission and some encouraging words from their coaches! At the three minute mark, Ashley Radford found Eve Greig in front of the net where she made no mistake and snapped one under the goalie’s pads to put the Aces up 2-0. Goalie, Carley Goos, did her thing as she stopped shot after shot and kept the Aces close and in the game!! She had some help from her awesome defencemen, too! Olivia Sim, Megan Bach, Meg Schoonderwoerd, Dayna Thompson, Shauna Everett and Neave Goris stood tall and tough as they kept the Saugeen shooters to the outside all game long!!

With a pulled Saugeen goalie and only a minute and a half left on the clock, the puck was sent out to the neutral zone. Haddie McLaughlin picked it up and was able to get it to the empty net where Meg Feore banged it in! A 3-0 win and a series completed!! On to the second round against the Cambridge Roadrunners! Well done, Aces!!!
