Pink the Rink
The Bantam A Aces participated in the “Pink the Rink” tournament in Etobicoke this past weekend.

The scores did not go their way but good games were had and the girls kept every game close! The Bantam A division played three games each on Friday. Up first was our Huron county rival, the South Huron Sabres. Despite the fact that the Aces outshot the Sabres, the score ended up being 1-0 in favour of the Sabres. After a quick lunch break the girls headed to the next rink to face the Barrie Sharks.

The Sharks are a top team so the girls knew it would be a tough one! The Aces were up 1-0 early when Ella VanBakel tapped one in, assisted by Hailey Zurell, but Barrie came back before the intermission to tie it. The third period proved to be difficult for the Aces as Barrie scored one more goal to seal the deal 2-1 and hand the Aces their second loss of the tournament. Back to the hotel to check in and then on to the final game of the day against the Etobicoke Dolphins.

The Dolphins turned out to be a team that was pretty evenly matched to our Aces. Period one ended scoreless but late into the second period Ella VanBakel scored her second of the tournament assisted by Meg Feore. Not to be outdone, Etobicoke snuck one in before the end of the second. The third period was also scoreless and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

With two losses and a tie, the girls were given one more consolation game on Saturday night against the Brampton Canadettes. The first period passed by scoreless but into the second, Brampton put one past our goalie and went up 1-0. The girls regrouped during the intermission and came back with a vengeance! Sadie MacArthur got the puck behind the net and slid it out to Hailey Zurell who made no mistake and tied the game 1-1. With two minutes left in the game, Ashley Radford broke away and ripped one past the goalie to score an unassisted goal to give the Aces the win!!! A great way to end a fun weekend away!  Back to work on Monday, ladies...see you at the rink!
