HFS Gets Back On The Right Track
The Humphrey Fleet Service Aces Atom A team returned to regular season action, October 27 with a decisive 7-0 win over the St. Thomas Panthers.

The Aces used a combination of great goaltending, stingy team defense and a tenacious fore check to walk away with the victory. The teams exchanged chances early and Chloe Rison made several solid stops to keep it scoreless in the first. With just over two minutes to go in the period Abby Van Bakel chipped the puck past the defender and drove down the right side and deep into the corner before feathering a perfect pass out front to Jayda Dietz who was driving hard to the net. She one-timed a beauty into the back of the cage to open the scoring. With 7:57 remaining in the second, Eve Binns' shot was stopped but Emersyn Miller snapped the rebound into the net to give the Aces a two goal cushion. The Panthers switched goalies seconds later with the draw in their zone, and the Aces took advantage immediately. Van Bakel won the draw and Eden Fraser, playing her first game on forward, one-timed it into the net at 7:21. Van Bakel made it 4-0, 13 seconds later with a beautiful unassisted tally. The Aces added three more in the third. Krista McMahon tipped the puck off the boards and behind the defender to Ava Harmer in the neutral zone. She wheeled past the defender and scored nine seconds into the third. Miller added her second of the night with 3:11 to go after Jule Cameron set her up. Ten seconds later Van Bakel added her second goal and fourth point and Fraser assisted. Maren Marshall, Camryn Medhurst and Kylin Wilson made several critical stops defensively to nullify the Panthers attack. Emma Van Nes and Maeve Moss got their sticks in the lane multiple times. Jayda Houben, playing her first game on defense, used body positioning, her speed and hockey smarts to perfection. When the Panthers did break through Rison stood her ground, controlled the rebounds. She came up with a big blocker side save in the third on a partial breakaway to earn the shutout. The Aces are back in action October 30 when they host the South Huron Sabres at 6 p.m.
