Neeb leads Aces past Meteors
The Taylor Fluid Systems Peewee C Stratford Aces travelled to Monkton’s Elma-Logan Arena on Sunday for an afternoon matchup against the Mitchell Meteors.

Immediately off the initial face off, Taylor Neeb bulldozed her way through the Mitchell defense and fired a wicked snap shot that beat the Meteor’s net-minder, giving the Aces the lead within the first ten seconds of the contest.  During the same shift, Neeb was sent streaking down the ice on the break and made no mistake, burying the second goal of the game on just her second shot.

Late in the first, Mitchell broke through the Aces’ stingy defense, netting their first goal of the game and getting them back within one.  With the first period winding down, the Aces swarmed the Meteor net-minder and Deirdre Parsons managed to bang home a rebound, once again increasing the Aces’ lead to two.

The only scoring in the second occurred when a Meteor gunner found an opening top shelf.  Mitchell tied the game early in the third, banging home a puck from a scramble our front.

With 6:38 left in the contest, Rowan Aitken made a tape-to-tape pass to a waiting Neeb who completed the hat-trick with a beautiful one-timer.  Shortly after, off a defensive zone faceoff, Ally Wheal chipped the puck down the ice and gave chase; Josie Walker went streaking to the net.  Wheal grabbed the puck in the corner, made a feed pass to Walker out front who snapped one passed the goalie, putting the Aces up for good, 5-3.

The Aces have the rest of the week off and will prepare for the upcoming Walter Gretzky Tournament in Brantford, starting on Friday, February 22.
