A Game to Remember
Remembrance Day – the Taylor Fluid Systems Peewee C Stratford Aces celebrated their annual Aces Day by hosting the St. Mary’s Rock – their first game since teams league-wide were reshuffled to promote more evenly matched competition.

The Aces came out with an intensity matched only by the cheering of the home town fans.  Scoring opened early in the first when Aces’ forwards Avery Faulhafer and Laura Sheldon cycled the puck back to the point where Taylor Neeb let loose a slap shot that found the back of the net.

With 5:15 left in the first, Neeb was sent to the penalty box, giving the Rock a much needed man advantage.  The PK unit took control of the neutral zone, preventing the Rock from setting up offensively.  Aggressive puck pursuit earned Josie Walker the opportunity to send Deidre Parsons streaking down the ice.  The Aces’ forward cut to her left, was checked by the Rock defense, but still managed while falling to her knee to lift a shot over the net-minder’s outstretched glove, putting the Aces up 2-0.

Play continued back and forth, the Aces limiting the Rock to a handful of shots.  With 23 seconds left in the period, passes from Grace Laverty and Laura Sheldon found Avery Faulhafer on the door step of the Rock’s net.  With a flick of the wrist she lifted the puck over the net minder’s shoulder, increasing the lead to 3.

As the Aces built momentum into the second and third periods, the Rock’s defense began to crumble and the Aces poured in three more unanswered goals by Avery Faulhafer, Taylor Neeb and Katie Helson.

The Rock made one final push and managed to spoil the Aces shutout when they slipped one passed Neumeister with 4:14 left on the clock.

In response, Kylie Fifield went on the rush, sniping one through the 5-hole, solidifying the 7-1 victory in the Aces’ home opener.
