Pre-game chanting duel sets the tone
The Taylor Fluid Systems Peewee C Aces traveled to Exeter on Saturday to take on the Sabres at the South Huron Recreational Centre.

Despite a 20 min game delay, the contest began with a spirited chanting duel between the two teams as they eagerly awaited access to the ice.  When the puck finally dropped, the Aces were ready, the defense sending the forwards to the attack with a pre-set play from the faceoff.

For much of the first period the Aces controlled the puck in the offensive zone setting up multiple scoring chances with well executed passes to the front of the net.  During a rush with 2:05 left in the first, Katie Helson fired one passed the Sabres’ net-minder, putting the Aces up 1-0.

Rachel Horan opened the second period by tipping a feed from Josie Walker into the back of the net, adding to the Aces lead.  The Sabres pushed back but the Aces continued their unselfish play with timely passing and determined forechecking.  Ava Neumeister came up with a big save, preventing the Sabres from gaining momentum.  As time wound down in the period, Avery Faulhafer, Grace Laverty and Laura Sheldon contributed to the final Aces’ goal of the contest.

Aggressive puck pursuit by Devan Taylor and Ally Wheal kept the Sabres pinned in their own end much of the third and the Aces went on to win 3-0.

Regular season action continues on Tuesday as the Aces travel to Zurich to take on the Huron Heat.
