Not in the Cards The Sommers Generator Systems Peewee A team faced the Lakeshore Lightning in the third round of Lower Lakes playoffs. The series started last weekend in Belle River where after a long drive the girls legs didn’t quite recover. The Lightning won that first game 2-1. Dayna scored the only goal with a beauty from the point. Back to Stratford for the next two games. The first one took place Sunday afternoon at 1pm. The Aces were aggressive, fast and relentless however the Lightning keeper was having none of it! Turning away shot after shot, the girls could not solve this goalie! The game ended in a 0-0 tie. The girls stayed alive with this one point and had to play the next game at 3:45pm. A quick refuel in the dressing room and the Aces were ready for the second puck drop of the day. The first period was scoreless and our Aces had many chances once again but the Lightning goalie refused to make an error! Finally, into the second period, after a scrum in front of the net, Sadie roofed one over the goalie’s shoulder! The girls kept the score 1-0 until late into the third. At the 3 minute mark, Lakeshore decided to pull their goalie for the extra attacker. Our Aces worked hard to get the puck out of our end and sent one up to Alexis who made no mistake and sent it down the ice and into the empty net! Up 2-0 with a minute and a half left!! Lakeshore again, pulled their goalie and again, Alexis sent another one down the ice into the empty net. Phew. 3-0 and the game ended. With both teams having 3 points now, a ten minute, 4-on-4 overtime was in order. However, it was not meant to be for our Aces as Lakeshore put one in, just two minutes into the overtime period and the girls hearts sank. Although disappointing for the girls, it was a very exciting ending to a very successful season for this Peewee A team!! Now it is time to regroup and get ready for their Provincial weekend!! Go Aces go!!!
