We Were Here for a Good Time...Not a Long Time!
The Sommers Generator Systems Peewee A team have officially ended their season!

The girls spent the weekend in Mississauga playing some of the best teams in the Province in their quest for gold. It wasnʼt meant to be however, as the girls were ousted in the quarterfinals by a strong Clearview team, 3-0.

The tournament started Friday morning at 8am when the Aces faced the North York Storm. Lauren scored the first goal with help from Sadie and Olivia. Into the second, Ashlyn and Alexis, assisted by Olivia, added two more markers. However, the girls werenʼt done! In the third period, Kiara added another goal assisted by Sadie and the game ended 4-0. Carley recorded the shut out.

The second game was against Oakville. The girls had faced Oakville one other time this year and were excited to play them again! Scoring started in the first when Clara put one in assisted by Ashley. The second period saw two more goals by our Aces. Kiara and Hailey scored with Dayna and Shauna collecting assists. The third period saw no goals from either side and the game ended in a 3-0 win for our Aces! A shut-out for Mia and a great start to Provincial weekend! Back to the hotel for a team dinner and some hotel fun before an early bedtime!

Saturday morning, the Aces were set to face the silver medalists from last weekendʼs Lower Lakes Championships, the Whitby Wolves. The girls knew this would be a tough game. They ended up outplaying this team for most of the game but just couldnʼt find the back of the net. Whitby would win this game 1-0 and squashed the Aces chances of getting a bye to the quarters. An elimination game would have to be played at 2:30 to earn our spot in the quarterfinals at 7pm.

After a quick snack and a short rest the girls were back at Meadowvale Arena to face top-ranked, Sault Ste Marie. The girls were ready to play this aggressive team... the word on the street was that they played in a boys league all season long!! Our girls came out flying and never gave up! It was one of the hardest, most intense games of the season and halfway through the second, Clara punched a loose puck into the back of the net much to the chagrin of the Saultʼs fans who thought there should have been a whistle! The rest of the game was up and down the ice, excellent back checking and forechecking by our forwards and strong defence in front of our net! With 2 minutes left, the Aces received their token “end of the game” penalty! The girls fought hard, especially when they pulled their goalie and when Shauna took one last shot toward their empty net...our hearts stopped, the puck floated in and the deal was sealed!! Aces win 2-0!! Mia recorded another fantastic shout-out!! On to the quarterfinals!!!

The final game of the season ended in a 3-0 loss to a very strong Clearview team. The third game of the day and a very early morning proved to be tough to overcome. The girls had many chances but again finding the back of the net proved to be a challenge. Clearview moved on to win the bronze medal and our Aces enjoyed one last night at the hotel, eating disgusting jellybeans, hanging in the sauna and giving each other season ending hugs.

It was a great ride and each and every girl made lifelong memories and friends. Congratulations Peewee A on a fantastic season!
