A Great Start to 2019!
After a restful Christmas break the Sommers Generator Systems Peewee A team was ready to get back to work as they look ahead to playoff time!

First up was a trip to Halton Hills to take on the Hawks in exhibition play. The girls were missing Clara, Alexis, Ella and Hannah but they pulled up their socks and skated extra hard in their absence. The first period was spent in Halton’s end as the girls put a lot of pressure on the defence but just couldn’t get one past their goalie. In the second, Ashlyn put Sadie’s pass into the back of the net to put our girls up 1-0 on the Hawks. In the third, Haddie broke free on a breakaway and made no mistake putting one past their net minder! With the help of our two goalies, Mia and Carley, the girls held on for the win!! It was Halton’s second loss of the season and having only 11 skaters made it that much sweeter! The girls worked hard and deserved that win!

The second game of the weekend saw all 17 girls on the ice for the first time in a long time!! The St. Thomas Panthers were next up! St. Thomas proved to be a much faster team than Halton was the night before but with our entire team on the ice finally, the girls were ready! The first period saw the Panthers go ahead 1-0 but into the second period, Alexis shovelled one past their goalie with help from Sadie and Hailey. Tied 1-1 going into the third, the girls knew they had to keep skating to match the Panther’s quick legs! Keira scored with help from her linemates, Ashlyn and Lauren to put us up 2-1! The game ended with a W for the Aces! A shout-out to our goalie, Mia for making some incredible saves to keep us in the game!

On Sunday, the London Devilettes rolled into town to try to gain back their first place spot from our Aces! Our girls would have none of that and went on to win 2-0. Keira scored first on a nice pass from Lauren and Hailey sealed the deal with an empty net goal of her own! Carley earned the shut-out! Now the Aces own top spot in the league thanks to some great hockey this weekend! Keep it up girls, playoffs are just around the corner!!
