A Successful Weekend in Etobicoke
The Sommers Generator Systems Peewee A team spent the weekend at “Pink the Rink” in Etobicoke.
The tournament started Friday morning against Durham West Lightning. The girls were excited to be together in a hotel for the weekend and it showed on the ice!! They put up 6 goals and Carley recorded the shut out! Goals were scored by Hailey(2), Clara(2), Sadie and Kiara. Assists were recorded by Alexis(3), Dayna(2), Hailey, Sadie, Kiara and Lauren.
In game 2 we met up with the Whitby Wolves. The girls knew this team would be a challenge. It was a hard fought game that ended in a 0-0 tie with Mia recording the shut out!
In game 3 on Saturday morning the Aces faced Belle Tire. The girls skated hard and put up 4 goals to take the win! Goal scorers in this game were Hailey, Ashlyn, Alexis and Kiara with Clara collecting two assists. Carley recorded her second shut out of the tournament.
The last game on Saturday would determine if we would end up in the top 4 and move on to Sunday’s playoff!! Oakville was going to be a tough opponent! It was a slow start for both teams...their hotel legs were starting to show! No score going into the third had both sets of parents on the edge of their seats!! Late in the third, Kiara grabbed the puck out front of Oakville’s net and sent it flying over the goalie’s shoulder. Olivia received the assist. 1-0 for the Aces! The game finished and Mia, again, recorded a shut out! The girls finished in 3rd place out of 17 teams and earned a spot in the semi-finals Sunday morning.
After an early curfew the girls were up, fed and rested ready to take on those Whitby Wolves again! Whitby was ready to play though and caught our girls back on their heels in the first, as most of it was spent in our own end! The Wolves scored in the second and again in the third to seal the deal. Our girls had chances but their goalie was strong and recorded the shut out.
Our defensive core of Katie, Hannah, Dayna, Olivia, Shawna, Ashley and our two awesome goalies had a great weekend keeping these teams at bay with only 2 goals being scored on us over the 5 games!! A shout out to Ella and Haddie too for their awesome forechecking skills this weekend!! Congrats to the girls for a great weekend of hockey!! They proved that they can skate and play with some of the top teams in Peewee A! Finishing 3rd out of 17 teams is a great feat! Back to practice tomorrow!!
