Atom C Aces Take Game One of Championship Final
The Dunny’s Source for Sports Atom C Aces travelled to Alvinston this past Sunday to open the Western Ontario Girls Hockey League (WOGHL) Championship Final against the Lambton Attack.

The final features a match up between two teams that were the class of the WOGHL.  Lambton had remarkable 2018/2019 season, their record heading into the finals was 23-0-3.  Not to be outdone, the Aces posted a 17-5-3 record over the same span, which included three losses and a tie against the Attack.  Recent games between the two teams have been evenly matched.  However, based on their record, the Attack would have to be considered the favourites in the best of three series.   The game itself was tentative to start.  Both teams were playing well defensively, it seemed neither the Aces nor the Attack wanted to get caught out of position and cough up a scoring chance.  It wasn’t until late in the first period when things opened up offensively.  Rachel Barber connected with Abby Iacobellis on a long stretch pass.  Iacobellis carried the puck deep into the Lambton zone and fired an off-angled shot that was kicked out by the Lambton goalie. Krista McMahon pounced on the rebound and buried it behind the netminder to put the Aces up 1-0.   The Aces carried the pace of play in the second period.  The latter half of the period was primarily played in the Lambton end.  Stratford had a number of shots and several chances, but could not get a second goal past the Attack goalie.   Lambton showed signs of life in a balanced third period, but goalie Peyton Boyles-Keating slammed the door, making a few keys saves down the stretch to preserve the shutout, in a thrilling 1-0 victory.   The Aces can clinch the league championship with a win at home this Friday.
The girls would love to have a big crowd on hand to cheer them on in their final home game of the season.
Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Allman Arena.
