Busy Weekend for the Dunny's Source for Sports Atom C Aces
The Dunny’s Source for Sports Atom C Stratford Aces had their Christmas party and played three games this past weekend. It started Friday when the Aces travelled to Mitchell.

The girls avenged their loss in the final of the Festival Cup with a dominating 3-0 win over the Meteors.  Goal scorers for Stratford included Abby Iacobellis, Katelynn McMahon and Paige Taylor.  Goaltender Peyton Boyles-Keating made a few huge saves, one on a breakaway, to earn the shutout. Saturday’s game was the first of a home and home against the league leading Lambton Attack.  Lambton had not conceded a goal in their last seven games.  The teams played to a scoreless first period.  In the second, with the Aces hemmed in their own end, Lambton scored on a sharp angled shot to put them up 1-0.  In the third, Rachel Barber carried the puck from behind the Aces net, straight up the ice and through the Lambton defenders to score, and tie the game at one.  A turnover by the Aces led to a goal for the Attack, giving them the lead, 2-1.  Lambton scored an empty netter as the Aces were trying to get an extra attacker on the ice to make it 3-1.  The Aces showed true grit when Iacobellis scored right back to cut the lead to one, with less than a minute left.  The game ended with a final score of 3-2 in favour of Lambton, in what was a closely matched and entertaining game. The highlight of the weekend was Saturday night.  Coach Chris hosted a joint Christmas party for the Atom C’s and the Peewee’s C’s!  The girls enjoyed their secret Santa exchange, Karaoke, and got a big surprise when presented with Aces hoodies, compliments of Taylor Fluid Systems and the coaching staff!  A great time was had by all. On Sunday, the Aces made the trek to Alvinston to play the Attack.  One would have expected the squad to be sluggish after staying up late the night before.  That was certainly not the case, as the two teams fought another close battle.  Game two was a more spirited and physical game.  The Attack scored the only goal of the game on a scramble in front of the Aces goal midway through the third period, to prevail 1-0. Reflecting on the weekend, Coach Darcy had this to say, “Great team effort and development.  We played the only unbeaten team in our loop and were right there with them.  It was a great test of our girls and they showed up both games ready to compete!’ One gets the feeling that a rivalry has developed between the two teams.  Despite two losses, the Aces look forward to playing the Attack again.  That could happen as soon as this weekend, when the Aces take part in the Panthers on the Prowl tournament in St Thomas.
